2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for the resources industry in Northern Australia.
It’s an exciting time as the new Finocchiaro CLP Government has hit the ground running with significant plans to turbo charge development and economic growth across the Northern Territory.
The introduction of the new Territory Coordinator is expected to drive investment in the resources sector, fast track projects and remove unnecessary red tape.
The Beetaloo Basin is a total game changer for Australia and its’ potential as a transformative asset for the NT’s economy and a cornerstone of Australia’s energy security strategy. This will be a step change for regional development in the wider Katherine and Barkly regions, and act as a driver for new gas based manufacturing in the NT, and provide much needed gas supply to eastern states
Significant offshore investment continues at pace with Santos’ construction of the Barossa gas project, and with new exploration programmes underway by other companies in the oil and gas community
The shift towards decarbonisation strategies abounds with renewed focus and investigation into the potential for the development of carbon capture and storage in Australia’s north.
Exciting things are happening around the Tanami and Tennant Creek regions – with renewed interest – and success – with exploration and new mine development
The major NT mines are getting back on their feet after dealing with the devastation from last year’s Cyclone Megan, with 2025 promising further investment new capacity and recovery.
The Final Investment Decision is expected on a number of new mining projects in 2025 including that of Arafura Resources long awaited Nolan’s rare earths project amongst others.
Plans are being developed to create the $400 million Darwin Renewable Energy Hub which will include up to six new solar farms along with a significant big battery energy storage system
Fantastic opportunities await for the development of the Sun Cable large scale solar project, new battery storage and other key enablers of the renewable energy transition in Northern Australia
The Federal Government has just released the First Nations Clean Energy Strategy which outlines steps for partnering and engaging with First Nations communities in the development of new renewable energy projects so that these communities can participate and benefit from the clean energy transition.
